VELCOSAMINE THERAPY FOR DOGS

It is a fact of life - we, along with our pets, are going to get older. Some of us, and some or our dogs, will do it more gracefully than others. Some of us, and some of our dogs, will live long, active, healthy lives with very little medical problems - some of us won't be so lucky. When your dog gets older they are susceptible to conditions like arthritis and osteoarthritis just like we are. If you dog is especially active or participates in athletic events they may experience joint problems earlier in their lives. Some dogs will experience loss of mobility and joint pain due to inherited conditions or injury.

You might have first noticed a change in your dog=s behavior. When you go for a walk instead of staying up with you or even running ahead you may have had to call them to keep up, perhaps they were limping or even carrying a hind leg. Your dog may have had difficulty doing things that have been easy in the past such as climbing stairs, jumping in and out of the car or getting on and off the bed. Perhaps your dog yelps when they move a certain way or is sensitive to being brushed or touched in a particular area. So what did you do? You took your dog to the vet to find out what was going on and if you could fix it. Your vet did a thorough exam, took some x-rays, diagnosed your dog with arthritis and recommends drug treatment such as aspirin, phenylbutozone or maybe even Rimadyl.

You either go home and give it a try and your dog gets an upset stomach or has a reaction to the medication, or the pills are just too expensive, or it does not seem to be doing much good, or maybe you just do not like the idea of giving your dog drugs in the first place. You have heard about Glucosamine and Chondroitin being used to treat humans for arthritis and you wonder if it would work for your dog, or if you could at least use it in conjunction with medications such as carprofen (Rimadyl).

Healthy joints and cartilage are not only important in the ability of dogs to perform well, but also for the comfort of dogs in routine movements such as walking, climbing stairs, getting up and down, etc. Glucosamine and chondroitin work together to improve the health of joints and cartilage.

Joints, responsible for movement, are made up of a joint cavity filled with synovial fluid, synovial membranes and cartilage. The cartilage acts as a shock absorber and a smooth gliding surface for bones within the joint. The synovial fluid acts as both a lubricant and a source of nutrition for the cartilage. Cartilage is a matrix made up a collagen, hyualuronic acid and glycosaminoglycans. Because of the mechanical forces of movement and weight bearing, these matrix components are constantly being replenished in order to maintain strength and resilience. This rebuilding process creates a large demand for the building blocks utilized in this process. If these building blocks are not available in adequate levels, the process will breakdown and eventually lead to degenerative joint disease. Two major building blocks for cartilage synthesis are Glucosamine and Chondroitin.

Glucosamine is responsible for synthesis within the joint. It supplies key nutrients that keep cartilage cells healthy and functioning properly, it is an anti-inflammatory that is easily absorbed by the body, in nutritionally supports healthy joints and aids the body=s ability to generate and regenerate connective tissue. Chondroitin inhibits harmful enzymes that promote the breakdown of cartilage, it attracts beneficial fluid into joints to nourish it and create a shock absorbing layer in the joint to cushion and protect it and helps rebuild joint cartilage. Since these important building blocks decrease with age, and the incidence of degenerative joint disease increases, both glucosamine and chondroitin should be supplement to your dogs diet.

Velcosamine is the optimum choice as a supplement for joint health because it provides such a wide spectrum of nutritional support and gives your dog so much more than just Glucosamine and Chondroitin. Made from velvet antler it naturally contains some of the most potent agents known for maintaining and rebuilding optimum cartilage matrix composition and connective tissue strength thus providing maximum joint comfort.

Besides being high in glucosamine and chondroitin velcosamine contains prostaglandins that fight joint and muscle pain, IGF-1 that promotes muscle development, prevents muscular atrophy and slows the deteriorating effects of aging, collagen that is the main structural protein that binds joints together and builds cartilage, lipids to boost energy, calcium for strong bones and teeth, selenium to reduce infection and protect blood cells, the heart, liver and lungs, magnesium that help cells store and release energy and maintain healthy levels of cellular and plasma electrolytes, potassium to aid in the transmission of nerve impulses, contraction of muscles, boost renal function and carbohydrate metabolism, phosphorus to build bones and teeth and aid the body=s metabolic reaction, Omega 3 and Omega 6 to improve cardiovascular response and aid circulation and other essential amino acids that are the building blocks of protein.

If you can nourish and repair cartilage, lubricate the joints for flexibility, relieve joint and muscle pain, improve cardiovascular efficiency, circulation and muscle tone for quicker recovery after exertion and increase energy levels the result is a more active, healthy and happy dog.

Velcosamine is all natural. Dogs have demonstrated no adverse effects to the liver, kidney, organs or gastrointestinal tract. Many commonly prescribed drugs used to treat arthritis in dogs actually contribute to joint degeneration by preventing growth of collagen in joints. These drugs can also produce serious side effects such as deterioration of the gastrointestinal tract lining and liver and kidney damage. Velcosamine does not produce drug-related side effects and is considered by many to be safer for use than most conventional drugs.

Joint problems generally get worse over time. The sooner velcosamine treatment is started the better chance your dog has to respond and return to normal activity. Velcosamine works more gradually than traditional drugs. Some dogs show dramatic results in as little as 48 hours, others may gradually improve over a period of 4-6 weeks. In our experience, 85% of the dogs given K-9 Rejuvenator have shown significant improvement. K-9 Rejuvenator will not help every dog, however, neither to the drugs. We recommend that you start with a dosage of 20 mg/lb. of body weight daily for the first two weeks then reduce to 10 mg/lb. per day for maintenance. If your dog continues to respond well you might want to experiment with reducing the dosage further, many large dogs get by perfectly well on 1 capsule a day. Every dogs needs are different - watch your dogs movement and attitude and if they are active, happy and comfortable decrease the number a day and see what happens. If your dog becomes listless, stiff and cranky raise the dosage until they are comfortable again.

Be you dogs best friend - give him Velcosamine K-9 Rejuvenator.
